Now this is what I call takeway
Francesca Fogarty 19 December 2008
Concorde Creperie is a small affair. Incredibly small. Four seats to be exact. Tucked away beside the GPO's magnificent arched walkways, Concorde Creperie has one theme. Crepes. When we asked if we could grab a skinny flat white and long black, the response was "grab one from next door- we don't mess around with coffee".
Concorde Creperie is an outdoor kiosk. I can imagine it's not the most pleasant place to be in a howling gale, but come a lovely summer's day and its all you need.
The menu is massive considering storage must be at a premium. All ingredients are fresh, free range and well thought through.
The crepes are made in the traditional manner, on a hot plate, spread and flipped with a variety of wooden tools. They are served nicely browned, folded into a beautiful wrap and tucked into a neat package. It's a takeaway joint predominately, or somewhere to grab a quick bite in between squeezing into jeans or trying on new shoes (in hindsight, I'd probably go to Concorde Creperie after I purchased the jeans- there's no need to put you in a bad mood).
The crepes are amazing. Phenomenal. Yum. The stewed apple, with cinnamon and organic Gippsland yoghurt was so much more than I thought it would be. Sweet, savory, cold hot, I got shivers up and down.
I think the free range egg, jarslberg cheese and parsley crepe was good - it was consumed so quickly it's hard to tell.
Not particularly breakfast like - but who's running this ship? - the prosciutto, tomato, pea, buffalo mozzarella, anchovies and basil crepe was perfect, subtle, fresh and creamy (mozzarella). And who can beat old favourite - lemon and sugar.
Go there.
